Overview

The advanced workshops on Computational Molecular Evolution (CoME), run annually since 2009, provide researchers with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to carry out molecular evolutionary analysis of sequence data from both different species and different individuals of the same species. The course combines basic ideas fundamental to the field with discussions of cutting-edge methodologies, and is therefore relevant to researchers with a range of different experience levels. The course comprises lectures, pracitcals, computing demonstrations, software use sessions, and keynote lectures. Topics covered include uses and interpretations of molecular phylogenies, sequence alignments and genomics resources, Markov models of sequence evolution, phylogeny reconstruction, hypothesis testing in molecular phylogenetics and evolution, coalescent models and inference from population data.
